The aim of study was to investigate whether there are differences in the occurrence offalls in people of all ages, both sexes in the costal areas, islands and the hinterland in theSplit- Dalmatia County in the Republic of Croatia and the rest of the world in theobserved decade 2003rd to 2012th with special reference to the oldest age 65 and over,and what the role of nurses in the control and prevention of falls.Method: The data of routine health statistics epidemiological comparative methodtreated in primary care and hospital release the established hospital morbidity treated atthe Clinical Hospital Center Split and deaths in Split-Dalmatia County compared withthe Republic of Croatian and some European countries, with statistical analysis softwareStatistica 7, to determine whether there are some significant differences.Results: Over half of all violent deaths in Split-Dalmatia County are aged 65 and over.Falls are the cause of 69% of violent deaths. While other violent deaths are reporteddownward trend, deaths due to falls are on the rise. The mortality rate from falls for allages in women was significantly higher than in males (22.74/ 100 000 vs. 15.65/ 100000) and for age 65 and older (122.08/ 100 000 vs. 85.77/ 100 000 ). No statisticaldifference in average mortality rates between the coast and the hinterland of the island,as well as between cities and municipalities. Higher mortality rates in remote areas witha higher average age of the population and only in females. The last five years therewere no statistically significant differences in mortality due to falls among SDŽ and theCroatian. Split-Dalmatia County as Croatia has significantly higher mortality rates thanthe European average and significantly higher mortality rate in women than in men,which is similar in other European countries or the mortality rate among men issignificantly higher than in women as in Sweden.82Conclusions: The mortality rate due to falls significantly more common in women inolder age. High mortality rates in Split-Dalmatia County and the Republic of Croatia arethe result of the lack of concern of the entire community for the elderly. Health careprofessionals, especially nurses, who by nature of their work coming into the homes ofolder people can do a lot through education about the prevention of falls in older people.
