Abstract
Multipla skleroza (MS) je upalna autoimunosna demijelinizacijska bolest središnjeg živčanog sustava koja nastaje međuigrom genskih čimbenika i čimbenika okoline. Osnovnu karakteristiku čine brojna demijelinizacijska oštećenja SŽS-a. Posljedica toga je upaljena i oštećena mijelinska ovojnica i onemogućeno prenošenje impulsa iz mozga na periferiju. To je bolest bijele rase te njena prevalencija raste u područjima koja su naseljena bijelcima. Treća najčešća neurološka bolest u ljudi u dobi između 15 i 50 godina. Pravi uzrok multiple skleroze nije razjašnjen do danas. Mogući čimbenici su genetska nasljednost, čimbenici okoliša i infekcija. Simptomi MS-e su dosta varijabilni i promjenjivi. Grupiranje simptoma i tijek bolesti su oni koji dovode do definitivne dijagnoze. Rehabilitacija i suradnja bolesnika imaju najvažnije značenje u liječenju multiple skleroze. Glavni cilj je spriječiti napredovanje bolesti i omogućiti oboljeloj osobi što kvalitetniji život.
Abstract (english)
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory autoimmune demyelinating disease of the central nervous system resulting from the interplay of genetic and environmental factors. Basic characteristic of the disease are numeorus demyelinating CNS damages. As a result there is damaged and inflamed myelin sheath which leads to bad nerve ability of transmitting impulses from the brain to the periphery. It is a white race disease and its prevalence is growing in areas inhabited by whites. It is also in a third place among the most common neurological diseases of the age between 15 and 50. The real cause of multiple sclerosis is still unknown. Possible factors are genetic heredity, infections and environmental factors. The symptoms of MS are variable so only grouping of the symptoms and monitoring the disease can lead to definite diagnosis. Rehabilitation and cooperative patients are the most significant in treatment of MS. The main goal is to prevent the progression of the disease and enable a quality of life to the patient.
