Objective: The main objective of this study was to assess the impact of physical therapy on the quality of life of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Methods: The study was conducted from October 2023 to April 2024 at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with Rheumatology at the Clinical Hospital Center Split. The study included 30 participants with rheumatoid arthritis, aged between 48 and 77 years. The rehabilitation program lasted four weeks and included various combinations of physical therapy modalities, with kinesitherapy applied to all participants. Physiotherapy procedures were individually tailored to the patient's condition and comorbidities. Assessments were conducted at the beginning and end of the study. Disease activity was evaluated using the DAS28 index. Pain was assessed using the visual analog scale, while functional status was evaluated using the HAQ-DI functional index. The impact of physiotherapy interventions on the quality of life of participants was assessed using the Croatian version of the SF-36 questionnaire. Results: After the physical therapy program, a significant reduction in pain, disease activity, and functional disability was observed, regardless of the level of disease activity. Participants with high disease activity experienced a significantly greater increase in energy and vitality, improvement in mental health, and reduction in physical pain compared to participants with moderate disease activity Conclusions: Physical therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis leads to a reduction in pain and disease activity, as well as improvements in functional status and quality of life. Therefore, the importance of physical therapy in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with rheumatoid arthritis is emphasized.
