Abstract
Šećerna bolest kronični je poremećaj tolerancije glukoze karakteriziran povišenom koncentracijom glukoze u krvi kao posljedicom nedovoljnog lučenja inzulina, izostanka njegova djelovanja ili kombinacije tih dvaju mehanizama. Postoje 4 oblika šećerne bolesti, a najčešće pojavljivan oblik je tip 2. Razlog njegovog sve češćeg pojavljivanja među mlađim dobnim skupinama je zapadnjački način života. Simptomatologija dijabetesa tipa 2 je najčešće oskudna pa se bolest dijagnosticira u kasnom stadiju. Što se bolest ranije dijagnosticira to su uspjesi liječenja bolji. Ako se ne liječi na vrijeme i na pravi način uzrokuje akutne i kronične komplikacije. Akutne nastaju brzo, dramatičnog su toka, lako se prepoznaju i zahtijevaju hitnu intervenciju, a kronične nastaju polagano, dugo godina su bez simptoma, ali trajno oštećuju i uništavaju pojedine organe i organske sustave. Medicinska sestra ima bitnu ulogu u liječenju dijabetesa i preveniranju njegovih komplikacija. Ona se vodi cjelovitim pristupom bolesniku i njegovoj obitelji, te spoznaje bolesnikove potrebe. Kvalitetna skrb kod zbrinjavanja osobe oboljele od šećerne bolesti zahtijeva veliko stručno znanje medicinske sestre, koja mora uspostaviti odnos povjerenja i dobru komunikaciju s bolesnikom i educirati ga o brizi za vlastito zdravlje. Ako bolesnik održava razinu glukoze u krvi što bliže normalnim vrijednostima, pridržava se savjeta vezanih za pravilnu dijabetičku prehranu i fizičku aktivnost može znatno poboljšati svoju kvalitetu života i produžiti životni vijek.
Abstract (english)
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic glucose tolerance disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels as a result of insufficient insulin secretion, lack of its action, or a combination of these two mechanisms. There are 4 types of diabetes, and the most common type is type 2. The reason for its increasing prevalence among younger age groups is the Western lifestyle. Symptomatology of type 2 diabetes is deficient and the disease is diagnosed at a late stage. The earlier the disease is diagnosed, the better the success of the treatment. Unless treated promptly and properly, it causes acute and chronic complications. Acute ones are rapid, dramatic, easy to recognize and require immediate intervention, and chronic ones are slow, have been symptom-free for many years, but permanently damage and destroy individual organs and organ systems. The nurse plays an essential role in treating diabetes and preventing its complications. The nurse is guided by a holistic approach to the patient and his family and recognizes the patient's needs. Quality care in the care of a person with diabetes requires extensive specialist knowledge of the nurse, who must establish a trusting relationship and good communication with the patient and educate him about caring for his own health. If the patient maintains blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible, adherence to the advice regarding proper diabetic nutrition and physical activity can significantly improve their quality of life and extend their life expectancy.
